Willo Historic District

Utilized as agricultural land dating back to the late 1800s and eventually developing into a small community of bungalow-style homes, the Willo Historic District has maintained its character and charm, enticing residents who are seeking a quaint neighborhood with direct access to arts, culture and entertainment in the heart of downtown Phoenix.

Welcome to Willo Historic Distric

Homes in the Willo District, located west of First Avenue to Seventh Avenue, situated north of McDowell Road to south of Thomas Road, were first constructed in the early 1900s and feature a variety of architectural designs including bungalow, Tudor, American Colonial Revival, Spanish Colonial Revival and ranch-style homes.

As the city of Phoenix grew, the quiet suburb and valuable land gained interest from commercial developers in the 1980s, which inspired residents to rally for a conservation district and protect its historic status. Today, the Phoenix Preservation Historic Office governs home renovations and upgrades to Willo District homes in an effort to maintain historic appeal.
